Do Not Stop At “It’s A 6.0”
For a swap or calibration, displacement is only one line on the worksheet. Two 6.0L LS-family engines can require different controllers, harnesses, throttle hardware, cam timing components and transmission strategies.
Record These Before Buying Anything
- Engine RPO/casting information and displacement.
- 24x or 58x crank reluctor system.
- 1x or 4x cam signal and sensor location.
- Drive-by-cable or electronic throttle.
- AFM/DOD and VVT hardware present or deleted.
- Cylinder-head port family: cathedral or rectangle.
- Crank flange/flexplate arrangement.
- Intended ECM/PCM and transmission.
Quick Signal Reference

Those clues are useful, but exceptions exist. The safest identification is the actual reluctor/sensor/controller combination, not a single external feature.
Why This Matters
A controller calibrated for the wrong crank/cam pattern may not achieve synchronization at all. A correct engine ID also prevents downstream mistakes with the harness, pedal/TAC system, injectors, transmission and speed signal.
